Last night at the camp at mortain it was fun….I had a nice takeaway pizza and fries (a Norwegian pizza…it is smoked salmon topping) then spent evening chatting with my neighbours over a bottle of cider I brought. The sky put on a spectacular display of thunder and lightning….we thought we would avoid getting wet…sadly at 2230 it was dive to tent time.

Woke at 0540, got up….decided while dry to make tea and breakfast, tomato and green pepper fries up with last of sausage…was half way through eating when rain came…
Proceeded to rain heavily for 3 hours….I camped out in facility’s block, fired up stove and coffee and read. I left at 1115 when tent had dried.
Massive downhill then up to start day then back on old rail track to begin the long decent.

Stopped just off track to saint-hilaire-du-harcouet at resteraunt opposite the church.
This town had survived ww2 quite well until after the invasion….it was on a route used by Germany to supply the reinforcements…. so in one night of intense bombing 78pc of buildings obliterated. Rebuilding lasted to 1960’s

Continuing down the lovely track…..noted GPS thinks I’m in Netherlands!

And suddenly the end…no more train track path

Now it was time to wind along the coastal plain

On the way a quick stop at the German mausoleum over 11800 where reburied in crypts here….mainly young men…speaking a different language but just as dead.

Then the final push and a high speed run over the causeway bell ringing to move the pesky pedestrians..🙄

Then back to campsite where I had checked in on way past, and get set up…74km I was tired but happy.
